Small Business Drives the U.S. Economy

A report issued yesterday by the government?s SBA Advocacy proclaims what we all know, that small business continues to drive the United States economy. The annual report shows that for 2005, 57.4 million Americans or about 50.6% of the non-farm private sector work force was employed by small businesses.

Not surprising, the report also shows that out of all employers, large and small, 99.7% are small businesses. ?Small businesses innovate and create new jobs at a faster rate than their larger competitors. They are nimble, creative, and a vital part of every community across the country. This report will help remind policymakers and others of the important role small business plays in the nation,? said Thomas M. Sullivan, Chief Counsel for Advocacy.
